Baseball’s Velocity Revolution (In Progress)

Methodology

This analysis will explore the ongoing push towards valuing pitch velocity for pitchers and exit velocity for hitters all the way from MLB front offices to youth baseball coaching. I sourced data from MLB’s baseball savant that is a mix of velocity numbers, advanced performance metrics, and traditional performance metrics. I will be creating a Power BI dashboard with a variety of visualizations exploring the correlation between velocity data and statistical in game results. Ultimately, this will help to unpack whether the surge in emphasis on velocity in baseball is warranted.
